Tips:

  • Choose the right meat: Chuck roast is the traditional cut of beef used for Swiss steak, but you can also use round steak, flank steak, or sirloin steak. Just be sure to choose a cut that is at least 1 inch thick.
  • Tenderize the meat: To make the Swiss steak extra tender, you can pound it with a meat mallet or use a fork to pierce it all over.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the meat before adding it to the slow cooker will help to develop its flavor.
  • Use a good quality Swiss cheese: The type of Swiss cheese you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the dish. Look for a cheese that is flavorful and melty, such as Gruyère or Emmental.
  • Don't overcook the meat: Swiss steak is best when it is cooked until it is tender but not dry. Overcooking will make the meat tough.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker Swiss steak is a classic comfort food dish that is perfect for a busy weeknight meal. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious and hearty Swiss steak that your family will love.
