Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 2h20m

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb pecans or 1 lb walnut pieces
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Steps:

  • Preheat slow cooker/Crock Pot on high for 15 minutes.
  • First, in preheated slow cooker/Crock Pot stir the walnuts (or pecans) and butter until mixed well.
  • Add the powdered sugar, stirring to coat evenly.
  • Cover and slow-cook on high for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and slow cook, UNCOVERED, stirring occasionally, until the nuts are coated with a crisp glaze (should be about 2 hours.) Transfer the nuts to a bowl.
  • In another small bowl, combine the spices and sift them over the nuts, stirring to coat evenly.
  • Let cool before serving.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality nuts: Fresh, plump nuts will yield the best results. Avoid nuts that are stale or have a rancid smell.
  • Measure the nuts correctly: Too many nuts will make the coating too thick, while too few nuts will result in a thin, uneven coating.
  • Use a large enough slow cooker: A 5-quart or larger slow cooker is ideal for this recipe. A smaller slow cooker may not be able to accommodate all of the nuts.
  • Stir the nuts occasionally: Stirring the nuts every 30 minutes or so will help to ensure that they are evenly coated with the sugar mixture.
  • Cook the nuts until they are golden brown: The nuts should be a deep golden brown color when they are done. If they are too light, they will be chewy. If they are too dark, they will be burnt.
  • Let the nuts cool completely before storing them: The nuts will crisp up as they cool. Storing them before they are completely cool will make them soft and chewy.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker sugared pecans and walnuts are a delicious, easy-to-make snack or holiday gift. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a sweet and crunchy treat that is sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, give this recipe a try.
