Tips:

  • Choose the right squash: Butternut squash is the most common type used in casseroles, but you can also use acorn squash, kabocha squash, or even pumpkin.
  • Roast the squash first: Roasting the squash before adding it to the casserole intensifies its flavor and makes it more tender.
  • Use a variety of cheeses: A combination of cheeses, such as cheddar, Parmesan, and mozzarella, will give your casserole a complex flavor and a gooey texture.
  • Add some bread crumbs: Bread crumbs help to bind the casserole together and give it a crispy topping.
  • Season the casserole well: Don't be afraid to add plenty of salt and pepper to your casserole. You can also add other spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Cook the casserole until it is bubbly and the squash is tender: This usually takes about 30 minutes in a preheated oven.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker squash casserole is a delicious and easy side dish that is perfect for fall and winter gatherings. It is also a great way to use up leftover squash. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a hearty and flavorful casserole that the whole family will love.
