SLOW COOKER ROAST

Slow Cooker Roast image

A wonderful roast beef slow cooker recipe that makes it own delicious gravy while the beef and veggies are cooking. Try also with dry onion-and-mushroom soup mix in place of the onion for added flavor. Feel free to change the vegetables to make the dish to the liking of you and your family. You can add sliced mushrooms, sliced sweet onion or pearl onions, whatever strikes your fancy. I found a good ratio is 3 cubed potatoes and about 2 handfuls of additional vegetables.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: For this recipe, chuck roast, rump roast, or brisket are good choices. These cuts are well-marbled and will become tender and flavorful when cooked slowly.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: Browning the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat before adding it to the slow cooker will help to develop flavor and color.
  • Use a good quality beef broth: The beef broth is an important part of the gravy, so be sure to use a good quality broth. You can also use water, but the gravy will not be as flavorful.
  • Add vegetables for flavor: Vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onions can be added to the slow cooker along with the beef. This will add flavor and nutrition to the dish.
  • Cook the beef on low for 8-10 hours: Cooking the beef on low for 8-10 hours will allow the meat to become very tender and fall apart easily.
  • Make a slurry to thicken the gravy: If the gravy is too thin, you can make a slurry to thicken it. A slurry is a mixture of cornstarch and water. Add the slurry to the gravy and stir until it has thickened.

Conclusion:

This slow cooker roast beef in its own gravy is a delicious and easy-to-make meal. The beef is tender and flavorful, and the gravy is rich and flavorful. This dish is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. It can be served with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or rice.
