Time 4h40m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 17

Unsalted butter, for greasing insert
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons orange juice
Two 12-ounce bags frozen peaches (about 8 cups)
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch fine salt
4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
3/4 cup milk
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon almond extract, optional
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • For the filling: Butter the sides and bottom of the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker. Whisk together the cornstarch, orange juice and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl. Add the mixture to the insert, add the peaches and granulated sugar and toss.
  • For the biscuit topping: Whisk together the flour, 2 tablespoons of the granulated sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and rub the mixture together with your fingertips so that it forms a coarse meal with some pea-sized lumps. Add the milk and almond extract if using and stir with a wooden spoon to form a wet dough.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dough on top of the peach mixture. Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon granulated sugar with the cinnamon and ginger and sprinkle over the dough. Cover the slow cooker and set to high for 3 to 4 hours. The cobbler should be bubbly and the biscuits should be cooked through. Let rest for 20 minutes before serving.
  • For the sour cream topping: Meanwhile, combine the heavy cream, sour cream and confectioners' sugar in a medium bowl and beat with an electric mixture until the mixture forms medium peaks.
  • Spoon the cobbler into bowls and top with the whipped sour cream topping.

SLOW COOKER PEACH COBBLER

Provided by Alton Brown

Time 3h30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

6 ounces dark brown sugar
3 1/2 ounces rolled oats
4 ounces all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature, plus extra for the cooker
20 ounces frozen peach slices

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar, oats, flour, baking powder, allspice, nutmeg and kosher salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and work into the dry ingredients until a crumbly texture is formed. Fold in the peach slices.
  • Butter the bottom and sides of a 3-quart cooker. Add the mixture to the slow cooker and cook on low for 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Use ripe peaches: For the best flavor, use ripe peaches that are sweet and juicy. If your peaches are not ripe, you can ripen them by placing them in a paper bag at room temperature for a few days.
  • Peel the peaches: For a smoother crumble, peel the peaches before slicing them. You can use a vegetable peeler or a paring knife to remove the skin.
  • Use a variety of spices: To add flavor to the crumble, use a variety of spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. You can also add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness of the peaches.
  • Don't overmix the crumble topping: When you mix the crumble topping, be careful not to overmix it. Overmixing will make the topping tough. Just mix the ingredients until they are combined.
  • Bake the crumble until the topping is golden brown: Bake the crumble in a preheated oven until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. This usually takes about 30 minutes.
  • Let the crumble cool before serving: Once the crumble is baked, let it cool for at least 15 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set.

Conclusion:

Peach crumble is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and juicy peaches, flavorful crumble topping, and variety of spices, this dessert is sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy dessert, give peach crumble a try.
