Tips:

  • Choose the right beans: Different beans have different cooking times and textures. For this recipe, we recommend using dried great northern beans or cannellini beans. If you're using dried beans, be sure to soak them overnight before cooking.
  • Use a slow cooker liner: This will make cleanup a breeze. Simply remove the liner from the slow cooker and discard it after cooking.
  • Don't overcook the ham: Ham is a delicate meat, so it's important not to overcook it. Otherwise, it will become tough and dry. Cook the ham until it reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Add vegetables early in the cooking process: This will allow them to soften and release their flavor into the soup.
  • Season the soup to taste: Add salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little heat.

Conclusion:

This slow cooker ham and bean soup is a hearty and flavorful meal that's perfect for a cold winter day. It's also a great way to use up leftover ham. The soup is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a comforting and delicious meal, give this slow cooker ham and bean soup a try. You won't be disappointed!
