GRAPE JELLY SLOW-COOKER MEATBALLS

Grape Jelly Slow-Cooker Meatballs image

Many versions of this dish live on the Internet and for good reason-it's quick, easy and a real crowd pleaser. We find some of them a bit too cloying though, so we scaled down the jelly and added a little acidity and heat in the form of Dijon mustard, cider vinegar and hot sauce to create the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. We use beef meatballs, but you can substitute turkey or veggie ones.

Tips:

  • Choose the right mustard: The type of mustard you use will affect the flavor of the meatballs. For a milder flavor, use yellow mustard. For a more pronounced flavor, use Dijon mustard.
  • Use fresh ginger and garlic: Fresh ginger and garlic add a lot of flavor to the meatballs. If you don't have fresh ginger or garlic, you can use ground ginger and garlic powder, but the flavor will be less intense.
  • Brown the meatballs before cooking them in the slow cooker: Browning the meatballs gives them a nice crust and helps to lock in the flavor. You can brown the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat or in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.
  • Use a good quality curry powder: The curry powder is one of the most important ingredients in this recipe, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a curry powder that is made with a variety of spices, such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, and fenugreek.
  • Don't overcook the meatballs: The meatballs are done cooking when they are cooked through and no longer pink in the center. Overcooking the meatballs will make them tough and dry.

Conclusion:

These curry mustard glazed meatballs are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or main course. They're perfect for a party or potluck, and they're also great for a weeknight meal. Serve the meatballs with rice, mashed potatoes, or your favorite vegetables.
