Categories     beverage

Time 6h5m

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

6 cups water or milk
3/4 cup chai tea powder
Cinnamon sticks, as needed
Star anise pods, as needed
6 cups strong brewed coffee
Whipped cream, for serving
Cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Steps:

  • For the chai tea: Add the water (or milk) and chai tea powder to a slow cooker. Cook on low for 5 hours. Add some cinnamon sticks and star anise and cook for 1 hour more.
  • For the dirty chai lattes: Ladle some of the slow cooker chai into each cup of coffee. Serve with some whipped cream and a cinnamon stick for garnish.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients: The quality of your ingredients will greatly impact the flavor of your chai. Opt for fresh, organic spices and loose-leaf tea, rather than pre-ground or bagged tea.
  • Use a variety of spices: The traditional chai spice blend typically includes cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and peppercorns. Feel free to experiment with different spices, such as nutmeg, star anise, or fennel, to create your unique chai blend.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your preference: The amount of sweetener you add to your chai is a matter of personal taste. Start with a small amount and gradually increase it until you reach your desired sweetness level.
  • Use a slow cooker for a richer flavor: Cooking chai in a slow cooker allows the flavors to meld and develop over time. This results in a richer, more complex flavor than if you were to make it on the stovetop.
  • Serve chai with your favorite accompaniments: Chai is traditionally served with milk and sugar, but you can also enjoy it with other accompaniments, such as honey, maple syrup, or even a dollop of whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Chai is a delicious and versatile beverage that can be enjoyed at any time of day. With its warm, spicy flavor and numerous health benefits, it's no wonder that chai has become a popular choice for tea lovers worldwide. Whether you prefer a traditional chai recipe or a more modern variation, there's a chai recipe out there to suit your taste.
