Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast or beef stew meat are both good options for slow cooker beef stew. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in liquid.
  • Brown the beef before adding it to the slow cooker: This step is optional, but it adds a lot of flavor to the stew. Simply brown the beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned on all sides.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you add to your beef stew, the more flavorful it will be. Some good options include carrots, celery, potatoes, onions, and mushrooms.
  • Add some herbs and spices: A few simple herbs and spices can really elevate the flavor of your beef stew. Some good options include rosemary, thyme, garlic, and black pepper.
  • Let the stew cook on low for at least 8 hours: This will give the beef time to become tender and the flavors to meld together.
  • Serve the stew over mashed potatoes or rice: This is a classic way to serve beef stew, and it's always a winner.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker beef stew is a hearty and flavorful meal that's perfect for a cold winter day. It's easy to make, and you can even prep it ahead of time. Just brown the beef and vegetables, add them to the slow cooker, and let it cook on low for 8 hours. When you're ready to eat, simply serve the stew over mashed potatoes or rice.
