SLOW-COOKED, TEXAS-STYLE BEEF BRISKET

This slow-cooker recipe comes directly from the heart of a wonderful Texas cook who makes the best brisket in the world! Yay, Papa Louis! He shared it with me years ago, via my sister (his daughter-in-law). I change it from time to time by adding ingredients to make it more Mexican (serve it with tortillas), or leave it as is and serve it with fresh rolls.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef brisket: Look for a brisket that is well-marbled with fat, as this will help keep the meat moist and flavorful during the long cooking process.
  • Trim the excess fat from the brisket: Remove any large pieces of fat from the surface of the brisket, leaving a thin layer of fat intact.
  • Season the brisket generously: Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to season the brisket. You can also add other spices, such as cumin, chili powder, or oregano, to taste.
  • Sear the brisket before cooking: Searing the brisket in a hot skillet will help to brown the meat and add flavor. This step is optional, but it is recommended if you want to achieve a more flavorful brisket.
  • Cook the brisket low and slow: The key to tender, flavorful brisket is to cook it low and slow. The ideal cooking temperature is between 200 and 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the brisket for at least 8 hours, or until it is fall-apart tender.
  • Let the brisket rest before serving: Once the brisket is cooked, let it rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful brisket.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooked Texas-style beef brisket is a classic dish that is perfect for any occasion. With its tender, flavorful meat and smoky aroma, brisket is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table. By following these tips, you can make the best brisket you've ever tasted.
