SLOW COOKED PORK RIBS

SLOW COOKED PORK RIBS image

Categories     Soup/Stew     Pork     Bake     Kid-Friendly     Quick & Easy     Wheat/Gluten-Free     Dinner     Lunch     Potluck

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 2

Ingredients
2 racks baby back ribs ( our favorite are baby back ribs, but this works well with St. Louis style ribs too) 1 cup barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Season your ribs with marinade, your favorite rib rub, grill seasoning, or simply salt and pepper. Place ribs, meat side down, in baking dishes. Cover the baking dishes with aluminum foil and place in the oven. If you are using small baby back ribs, take out after 4.25 hours. If you are using regular baby back or St. Louis style ribs, then take out after 5.25 hours. Drain off the drippings. Flip the ribs over using two spatulas (and an extra set of hands if you have them) so the meat side is up. Be careful, as they may be so tender they fall apart. Put a layer of BBQ sauce on the ribs and return to the oven uncovered for an additional 20-30 minutes or toss on the grill. Remove from oven and serve them up with a side of potato salad and some baked beans.

Time 4h25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 14

8 meaty pork loin spareribs
1 tablespoon light olive oil
1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon seafood seasoning (such as Old Bay®)
¼ cup dried minced onion
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
salt and black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Place the ribs into a large pot, and cover with lightly salted water. Bring the ribs to a boil, and boil for 45 minutes. Drain off the water and set the ribs aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy pot or Dutch oven over medium heat until the oil shimmers, and brown the ribs on all sides, about 10 minutes per side. Remove the ribs, and pour in the beef broth, ketchup, brown sugar, lemon juice, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, seafood seasoning, dried onion, nutmeg, and salt and pepper. Stir the ingredients until the sauce has dissolved any brown bits of flavor from the bottom of the pan. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-low heat, and transfer the ribs back into the sauce.
  • Coat the ribs with sauce, cover the pan, and simmer over low heat until the meat is very tender and falls off the bones, about 3 hours.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ribs: Baby back ribs are the most popular choice for slow-cooked ribs, but you can also use spare ribs or country-style ribs.
  • Trim the ribs: Remove any excess fat or cartilage from the ribs before cooking.
  • Season the ribs: Rub the ribs with a mixture of spices and herbs, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Brown the ribs: Brown the ribs in a hot skillet or grill pan before slow-cooking. This will help to develop flavor and color.
  • Add liquid to the slow cooker: Add a small amount of liquid to the slow cooker, such as water, broth, or beer. This will help to keep the ribs moist and prevent them from drying out.
  • Cook the ribs on low heat: Cook the ribs on low heat for 6-8 hours, or until the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • Baste the ribs: Baste the ribs with the cooking liquid every hour or so to help them stay moist.
  • Make a sauce for the ribs: Serve the ribs with a homemade barbecue sauce or your favorite store-bought sauce.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooked ribs are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for any occasion. With a little planning and preparation, you can create fall-off-the-bone tender ribs that will impress your family and friends.
