SLOW COOKER SWISS STEAK

I threw this together in my crock pot one day and we loved it! A little time consuming because I sauteed the vegetables and browned the meat first, but it's well worth it. Browning the meat first gives it a better flavor. This is great with mashed potatoes!

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast or round steak are both good choices for Swiss steak. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly.
  • Tenderize the beef: Pounding the beef with a meat mallet helps to break down the tough fibers and make it more tender.
  • Marinate the beef: Marinating the beef in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and garlic powder for at least 30 minutes helps to add flavor and tenderize the meat.
  • Brown the beef: Browning the beef in a skillet before adding it to the slow cooker helps to develop flavor and prevent the meat from becoming dry.
  • Use a good quality Swiss cheese: The type of Swiss cheese you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the dish. Look for a cheese that is flavorful and melts well.
  • Don't overcook the beef: Swiss steak should be cooked until it is tender, but not so long that it becomes dry. The best way to check for doneness is to insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. The internal temperature should be 145 degrees Fahrenheit for medium-rare, 160 degrees Fahrenheit for medium, and 170 degrees Fahrenheit for well-done.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooked mushroom Swiss steak is a delicious and comforting dish that is perfect for a cold winter night. The beef is tender and flavorful, and the Swiss cheese sauce is rich and creamy. This dish is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
