This recipe has so many spices that I started keeping this mix pre-made. This mix recipe is just enough for one sloppy joe recipe (1 pound of ground meat). A lot of times I will finish the recipe and then keep the filling in the freezer.

Time 35m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb ground beef
onion, chopped (to taste)
green pepper, chopped (to taste)
1 cup catsup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Brown hamburger, onion, green pepper together.
  • Add remaining ingredients and simmer 15 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground beef: For the best flavor and texture, use 80/20 ground beef. This means that it contains 80% lean meat and 20% fat.
  • Brown the beef thoroughly: Cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it is no longer pink. This will help to develop the flavor and prevent the meat from becoming dry.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings to create a unique flavor profile. Some popular choices include chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cumin.
  • Simmer the sauce: Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld together and develop. Aim to simmer the sauce for at least 30 minutes, or longer if you have time.
  • Use a good quality bread: The bread is an important part of a sloppy joe sandwich, so make sure to use a good quality bread that will hold up to the sauce. Some popular choices include hamburger buns, hoagie rolls, and potato rolls.
