SKILLET APPLE PIE WITH CINNAMON WHIPPED CREAM

Skillet Apple Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream image

Provided by Trisha Yearwood

Categories     dessert

Time 55m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup light brown sugar
2 refrigerated rolled pie crusts, such as Pillsbury
One 21-ounce can apple pie filling
2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
2 cups whipping cream, chilled
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • For the skillet apple pie: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Melt the butter in a 9-inch cast-iron skillet; set aside 1 tablespoon of the melted butter for the top crust. To the melted butter, add the brown sugar and melt them together on medium heat, about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and line the skillet with one of the pie crusts. Pour the apple pie filling over the crust and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of the cinnamon sugar. Use the second pie crust to cover the filling. Brush the top with the reserved melted butter, then evenly sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar on top. Cut vents in the middle of the pie. Bake for 30 minutes. Serve hot, topped with a generous dollop of cinnamon whipped cream.
  • For the cinnamon whipped cream: Chill a large metal mixing bowl and a wire beater attachment in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Pour the cream, cinnamon and sugar into the cold mixing bowl and beat until soft peaks form, 2 to 3 minutes; the mixture should hold its shape when dropped from a spoon. Don't overbeat or you'll have sweetened butter!

APPLE-CINNAMON-WALNUT SKILLET CAKE

Apple-Cinnamon-Walnut Skillet Cake image

In addition to naturally sweet apples, other nourishing ingredients in this cake include Omega-3-rich walnuts, along with a duo of fiber-rich flours: whole-grain buckwheat and brown rice. Cinnamon takes the flavor up a notch, and with no eggs or dairy, this cake is perfect for anyone following a vegan diet. Even better? It's totally acceptable to pair a slice with some protein-rich Greek yogurt and happily declare "Breakfast is served!"

BUTTERY CINNAMON SKILLET APPLES

Buttery Cinnamon Skillet Apples image

This is a simple delicious apple dessert that may easily be doubled if desired --- I like to also add in about 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg :)

Provided by Kittencalrecipezazz

Categories     Dessert

Time 27m

Yield 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 medium cooking apples
1/3 cup butter (no substitutions)
1/2-3/4 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups water
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Peel, core and cut apples in half.
  • In a skillet melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon; mix well then add in water.
  • Add in the apples to the sauce; cover and cook over medium heat, occasionally spooning the sauce over the apples as they cook.
  • Cook for 12-15 minutes until the apples are fork-tender and the sauce is thick.
  • To serve; place two apple halves in a dish, and ladle approximately 1/2 cup butter/cinnamon sauce over each serving.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, tart apples that will hold their shape when cooked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
  • Slice the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet: If you overcrowd the skillet, the apples will steam instead of caramelize.
  • Be patient: It takes time for the apples to caramelize, so don't rush the process.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed skillet: A heavy-bottomed skillet will help distribute the heat evenly and prevent the apples from burning.
  • Add a little bit of water or apple cider to the skillet: This will help the apples cook through without burning.
  • Serve immediately: Skillet apples are best served warm, right out of the skillet.

Conclusion:

Skillet apples are a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are a great way to use up leftover apples, and they can be served on their own or with ice cream, yogurt, or granola. Next time you have a craving for a sweet treat, give skillet apples a try!
