SHRIMP WITH COCKTAIL SAUCE

Time 13m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 lemon
Kosher salt
2 pounds large shrimp in the shell (about 30)
1/2 cup chili sauce (recommended: Heinz)
1/2 cup ketchup (recommended: Heinz)
3 tablespoons prepared horseradish
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (recommended: Tabasco)

Steps:

  • Cut the lemon in half and add it to a large pot of boiling salted water. Add the shrimp and cook, uncovered, for only 3 minutes, until the shrimp are just cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon to a bowl of cool water. When the shrimp are cool enough to handle, peel and devein them. Keep cold until ready to serve.
  • For the cocktail sauce, combine the chili sauce, ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Serve with the shrimp.

Tips:

  • For the freshest shrimp, look for ones that are firm and have a shiny, translucent appearance. Avoid shrimp that are discolored or have a slimy texture.
  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw them properly before cooking. The best way to do this is to place them in a colander in the sink and run cold water over them for a few minutes.
  • Do not overcook the shrimp. Shrimp cook quickly, so it is important to cook them for only a few minutes, or they will become tough and rubbery.
  • When making the cocktail sauce, be sure to use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the sauce will taste.
  • If you are serving the shrimp with a cocktail sauce, be sure to chill the sauce before serving. This will help to keep the shrimp cold and refreshing.

Conclusion:

Shrimp with white cocktail sauce is a classic seafood dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your shrimp cooked plain or with a spicy kick, this dish is sure to please.
