A chuck roast slow-simmered in a beefy broth is delicious when shredded and spooned onto rolls. I serve the cooking juices in individual cups for dipping. -Carla Kimball, Callaway, Nebraska

FRENCH DIP ROAST BEEF FOR THE CROCK POT

French Dip Roast Beef for the Crock Pot image

This is one of the best recipes I've come up with for beef roast. The cheapest cuts come out tasting like you slaved over a stove all day long. You can add potatoes and carrots to the recipe if you like, or shred it and serve it as a French Dip sandwich with the au jus juice from the crock pot on the side. If you are watching your sodium, use the lite soy sauce and it will taste just as delicious.

SHREDDED BEEF FOR FRENCH DIPS (CROCK POT)

Shredded Beef for French Dips (Crock Pot) image

This is sooo good and easy. The first day we have French Dip sandwiches on crusty rolls, dipped in the broth. We then use the left over meat for hash or wrapped in flour tortillas. The left over broth gets saved in the freezer for recipes calling for beef broth. This makes a wonderful base recipe to make any type of beef soup. I have used this recipe for chicken also and it turns out delicious.

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, rump roast, or brisket are all good options for shredded beef.
  • Brown the beef before cooking: This will help to develop flavor and prevent the beef from becoming dry.
  • Use a low and slow cooking method: This will help to tenderize the beef and make it fall apart easily.
  • Add plenty of liquid: The beef should be covered in liquid while it is cooking. This will help to prevent it from drying out.
