Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup molasses
1 1/3 cups sour cream
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  • In large bowl of electric mixer, combine butter, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla and molasses.
  • Beat at medium speed for about 2 minutes; add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, beating until smooth.
  • Mix brown sugar, walnuts and cinnamon.
  • Spread 1/3 of batter in greased and lightly floured 10-inch tube pan.
  • Sprinkle with 1/3 of the nut mixture. Repeat twice.
  • Bake at 350° for 55 minutes or until pick inserted near center comes out clean.

Tips:

  • Prepare the Ingredients Accurately: Measure and gather all the ingredients before starting the recipe. Use a kitchen scale for precise measurements of dry ingredients and a measuring cup for liquids.
  • Use High-Quality Ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will result in a better-tasting coffee cake. Use real butter instead of margarine or shortening, and use fresh eggs and milk.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugar Properly: This is an essential step for creating a light and fluffy cake. Cream the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy and the sugar has dissolved.
  • Don't Overmix the Batter: Once you have added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mix only until the ingredients are just combined. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake the Coffee Cake at the Right Temperature: The ideal oven temperature for baking shoofly coffee cake is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. A lower temperature may result in a cake that is too dense, while a higher temperature may result in a cake that is too dry.
  • Don't Overbake the Coffee Cake: The coffee cake is done baking when a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Overbaking can result in a dry, crumbly cake.

Conclusion:

Shoofly coffee cake is a classic American dessert that is loved by many. It is a moist, flavorful cake with a sweet and crumbly topping. By following the tips above, you can make a delicious shoofly coffee cake that will be a hit with your family and friends.
