Creamed Chipped Beef On Toast image

My mom used to make this recipe. It can also be made with 3/4 pound browned, drained hamburger. We called it SOS: Same Ole Stuff. Great comfort food! Either recipe is easy to make and tastes great with a cold beer. Serve over toast.

Tips to Cook Shit-on-a-Shingle Like a Pro

  • Choose lean ground beef. Fattier ground beef will make the dish greasy.
  • Cook the ground beef over medium heat. This will help to prevent the meat from sticking to the pan and burning.
  • Drain off any excess grease from the ground beef. This will help to keep the dish from being too greasy.
  • Use a good quality beef broth. This will give the dish a rich, flavorful taste.
  • Season the dish to taste. Salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder are all good options.
  • Serve the shit-on-a-shingle with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include cheese, crackers, onions, and pickles.
