HERB GARLIC BAKED BRIE

Herb Garlic Baked Brie image

You won't believe how easy it is to make a wheel of garlic baked brie! We make thin slivers in the brie, load them with garlic and then drizzle on a thyme honey butter sauce that makes this wheel of brie totally unforgettable!

Provided by Marzia

Categories     Appetizers

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (8-16 ounce) wheel of brie
2-4 fresh cloves garlic (see notes)
½ teaspoon of fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1-2 tablespoons honey
dash of cayenne

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.
  • Place the brie in a small, ovenproof baking dish that is just slightly bigger than the wheel of brie. Using a paring knife, make 4 slivers out of two of the garlic cloves. Pierce the brie with the same paring knife and make slivers in the brie to fit the slivers of garlic in. Tuck the garlic slivers all the way into the brie. You could do this up to one day in advance if you are prepping for a get together; it flavors the brie even more!
  • When ready to bake, mince or press the remaining clove of garlic into a microwave-safe bowl, along with the thyme, olive oil, butter, honey, and cayenne. Zap in the microwave just long enough for the butter to melt, roughly 20-40 seconds. Stir to combine and pour the prepared honey butter over the brie wheel. Cover the baking dish with a piece of foil and place in the oven for the brie to melt, about 15-18 minutes for an 8-ounce wheel and 20-25 minutes for a 16-ounce wheel. Remove from the oven around press gently (without piercing the brie) using a butter knife to check if the brie has melted on the inside. If it has not softened place back in the oven for 2-3 additional minutes. When done, serve immediately with crackers or crostini.

Baked Brie with Caramelized Pears, Shallots and Thyme image

Brie baked in a round sourdough bread bowl makes this ultimately easy! You could substitute a sweet chutney for the topping for even easier prep. I microwaved the final product for a few minutes to speed up the cooking (couldn't wait for it to be ready!)

Time 1h20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 tablespoon butter
2 shallots, thinly sliced
2 pears - peeled, cored and sliced
⅓ cup dry white wine
½ teaspoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
salt and pepper to taste
1 (8 ounce) round loaf sourdough bread
1 (8 ounce) round Brie cheese
½ cup slivered almonds
Assorted crackers

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add shallot; cook and stir for 1 minute to soften. Add thinly sliced pears; cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Pour in white wine, brown sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper; increase heat to medium-high and simmer until the liquid has evaporated, and the pears have lightly caramelized, about 10 minutes. Set aside.
  • Cut a Brie-sized hole in the top of the sourdough bread to within 1/2-inch of the bottom. Cut the removed bread into pieces for serving, set aside. Score the Brie around it's edge, using a paring knife to cut 1/4-inch deep. Cut in half by looping an 18-inch piece of very thin string, or unflavored dental floss around the scored Brie and pulling the ends in opposite directions.
  • Place the bottom half of the Brie, cut-side-up, into the sourdough loaf. Top with 1/2 of the pear mixture and sprinkle with 1/2 of the slivered almonds. Place the remaining brie half on top, spread with remaining pear mixture, and sprinkle with remaining slivered almonds. Place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes or until soft and gooey. Serve with sliced sourdough bread and crackers.

Tips

  • Select a ripe brie: A ripe brie will have a soft, slightly runny texture and a bloomy white rind. Avoid brie that is too hard or has a brown or yellow rind.
  • Score the brie: Scoring the brie helps the cheese to melt evenly and prevents it from cracking.
  • Use a variety of toppings: You can use any number of toppings for your baked brie. Some popular options include nuts, fruits, and honey.
  • Bake the brie until it is melted and bubbly: The brie is done baking when it is melted and bubbly. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve the brie immediately: Baked brie is best served immediately, while it is still warm and melted.

Conclusion

Baked brie is an easy and delicious appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. It is a versatile dish that can be customized to your liking. With a little creativity, you can create a baked brie that is sure to impress your guests.
