This refreshing fruit medley, lightly coated with cherry pie filling, makes a great potluck or picnic dish. SEVEN FRUIT SALAD

Seven Fruit Salad image

My oldest son doesn't appreciate sugary, sweet fruit salads and requested I make one that was fresh without all the unnatural sweet stuff such as marshmallows, puddings and cream cheese with added sugar, etc... I found a solution which satisfied his taste buds.... and satisfied my prep time of not chopping fruit for an hour or...

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 can(s) (15 ounces each) reduced-sugar sliced peaches, drained
2 can(s) (11 ounces each) mandarin oranges
1 can(s) (20 ounces) unsweetened pineapple chunks, drained
1 c reduced sugar cherry pie filling
1 c fresh strawberries, cleaned and halved
1 c fresh blueberries, cleaned
1 c fresh green seedless grapes

Steps:

  • 1. In large bowl, combine the first 4 ingredients and mix. Add the rest of the ingredients, stir gently. The above salad is beautiful yet it is very satisfying. *NOTE* My sweet tooth rules so it prefers regular cherry pie filling than the reduced sugar. (Unfortunately, I usually make this fruit for Scott.)

Tips:

  • Utilize Seasonal Fruits: Take advantage of the freshest and most flavorful fruits that are in season. This will enhance the taste and nutritional value of your fruit salad.
  • Variety is Key: Don't limit yourself to just a few types of fruits. Experiment with a mix of flavors, colors, and textures to create a visually appealing and taste-bud-pleasing salad.
  • Prep Wisely: Before assembling the salad, wash and cut the fruits into bite-sized pieces. This will ensure even distribution and make it easier to enjoy.
  • Balancing Flavors: Consider the sweetness, tartness, and juiciness of each fruit when combining them. Aim for a balance of flavors to create a harmonious and enjoyable salad.
  • Enhance with Herbs and Spices: Don't be afraid to incorporate herbs and spices to elevate the flavor of your fruit salad. Mint, basil, ginger, and cinnamon are popular choices that add a refreshing or warm touch.
  • Dressing Delights: While fruit salads are often served without dressing, you can experiment with different options to add moisture and flavor. Honey-lime dressing, yogurt dressing, or a simple drizzle of balsamic glaze can enhance the experience.
  • Chill for Perfection: For a refreshing twist, chill the fruit salad before serving. This is especially delightful on hot summer days or as a cool dessert option.

Conclusion:

Creating a delicious and visually appealing fruit salad is an art that combines the best of nature's offerings. With careful selection of fruits, thoughtful preparation, and creative flavor combinations, you can elevate this simple dish into a culinary masterpiece. Experiment with different fruits, dressings, and presentation styles to find your perfect fruit salad recipe. Whether you enjoy it as a refreshing snack, a healthy breakfast, or a vibrant side dish, let the fusion of flavors and textures tantalize your taste buds and nourish your body with the goodness of nature.
