SESAME-SOY BEEF STIR-FRY

Sesame-Soy Beef Stir-Fry image

Early in our marriage (when I didn't have anything cooking-wise, least of all a clue!), I would browse the grocery store entryway for recipes. And the wondrous thing about this type of recipe is that they tend to be fool-proof, delicious, and usually affordable. This one is Asian in base and the trick to making Asian-tasting...

Provided by Nicole Bredeweg

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 c cooked rice
1 lb beef round tip steaks, 1/4" thick
16 oz frozen broccoli and red pepper mix
1/3 c water
2 tsp cornstarch
MARINADE:
3 Tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil

Steps:

  • 1. Cook rice accordingly.
  • 2. In medium bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Remove 2 tbsp; set aside. Stack beef steaks; cut lengthwise in half and then crosswise into 1" wide strips. Add beef to remaining marinade in bowl; toss to coat.
  • 3. Heat large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add beef (½ at a time) and stir-fry 1 minute or until outside surface of beef is no longer pink. (Do not overcook). Remove from skillet.
  • 4. In same skillet, combine vegetables and water; cook 4 to 5 minutes or until water is almost evaporated and vegetables are hot, stirring occasionally. Combine cornstarch mixture and reserved marinade; add to vegetables. Cook and stir 1 minute or until thickened and bubbly. Return beef; heat through. Serve over rice.

Tips:

  • Prep Ahead: To save time, prep your ingredients in advance. Cut the beef into thin strips, slice the veggies, and mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  • Tender Beef: To ensure tender beef, use a flank steak or skirt steak. Cut the beef against the grain for extra tenderness.
  • Velvety Sauce: For a smooth and velvety sauce, use cornstarch to thicken it. Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water, and add to the stir-fry towards the end of cooking.
  • Sesame Seeds: Don't skip the sesame seeds! They add a nutty flavor and a nice crunch to the dish.
  • Serve Immediately: Like all stir-fries, sesame beef is best served immediately. It's a great dish for a quick weeknight dinner.

Conclusion:

With its tender beef, colorful vegetables, and flavorful sauce, this sesame beef stir-fry is a delicious and satisfying meal that's perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, customizable with your favorite veggies, and packed with Asian flavors. Whether you're a beginner cook or a seasoned pro, give this recipe a try and experience the joy of homemade sesame beef.
