Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender asparagus: Look for asparagus spears that are bright green and have tightly closed tips. Avoid spears that are limp or woody.
  • Trim the asparagus: Cut off the woody ends of the asparagus spears. You can do this by bending the spear until it snaps naturally.
  • Blanch the asparagus: Blanching the asparagus will help to preserve its color and crispness. To blanch the asparagus, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the asparagus and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the asparagus is bright green and tender. Immediately transfer the asparagus to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Toast the sesame seeds: Toasting the sesame seeds will help to bring out their flavor. To toast the sesame seeds, heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add the sesame seeds and cook, stirring constantly, until the seeds are golden brown and fragrant.
  • Make the dressing: The dressing for this salad is a simple combination of soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and honey. You can also add a little bit of garlic or ginger to the dressing for extra flavor.
  • Assemble the salad: To assemble the salad, combine the blanched asparagus, toasted sesame seeds, and dressing in a large bowl. Toss to coat. Serve immediately.

Conclusion:

This sesame asparagus salad is a healthy and delicious side dish that is perfect for any occasion. The asparagus is crisp and tender, the sesame seeds add a nutty flavor, and the dressing is light and flavorful. This salad is also very easy to make, so it is a great option for busy weeknights.
