MAMA TE'S SENSATION SALAD

Mama Te's Sensation Salad image

Sensation Salad originated decades ago at a now-closed restaurant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and many home cooks have since adopted it as a family recipe. Bright lemon and a kick of garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard define the dressing, and a heavy-handed grating of salty, hard cheese like Parmesan or Pecorino Romano tops it off. My grandmother, Mama Te, often made her version of Sensation Salad for barbeques, serving it with chicken, rice pilaf, and garlic bread. This easy, everyday salad also pairs well with red meat, seafood, and Italian dishes. Top each serving more grated Parmesan if desired.

Tips:

  • Prep Ahead: For a quick and easy salad, prep your ingredients in advance. Wash and chop your veggies, and store them in airtight containers in the fridge until you're ready to assemble your salad.
  • Choose Fresh, Seasonal Ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the more flavorful your salad will be. Whenever possible, opt for organic, locally grown produce.
  • Balance Your Flavors: A good salad should have a balance of flavors, including sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. Mix and match different fruits, vegetables, nuts, and cheeses to create a salad that's both delicious and nutritious.
  • Don't Overdress Your Salad: A little bit of dressing goes a long way. Too much dressing can overwhelm the flavors of your salad and make it soggy.
  • Experiment with Different Dressings: There are endless possibilities when it comes to salad dressings. Try a classic vinaigrette, a creamy Caesar dressing, or a tangy honey mustard dressing. You can also make your own dressing using simple ingredients like olive oil, vinegar, and herbs.

Conclusion:

Salads are a delicious, healthy, and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner, or as a side dish. With a little planning and effort, you can create a salad that's both flavorful and nutritious. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, reach for a salad. You won't be disappointed!
