Yield Makes a pound of sprouts, enough for several meals

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound soybean sprouts
Water
2 green onions, thinly chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, crushed
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons salt
1 to 2 teaspoons chili powder

Steps:

  • 1. Wash the bean sprouts in cold water, removing any bean husks. Place them in a pot and add about 1 cup water. Do not fill the pot. Bring to a boil and cook for about 5 minutes. (Do not lift the lid to check if the pot is boiling because an unpleasant, fishy odor will fill your kitchen.) Remove from heat, rinse in cold water, and drain.
  • 2. Add green onions, garlic, toasted sesame seeds, sesame oil, salt, and chili powder and combine thoroughly, adjusting the salt and chili powder to your taste. Serve warm or chilled.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh soybean sprouts: Look for bright green and crisp sprouts with no signs of wilting or yellowing.
  • Trim the sprouts: Remove any tough ends or roots from the soybean sprouts.
  • Wash the sprouts thoroughly: Rinse the sprouts under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Use a variety of seasonings: Experiment with different seasonings to create a flavorful dish. Some popular options include garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar.
  • Cook the sprouts briefly: Soybean sprouts are best when cooked briefly to maintain their crisp texture. Stir-frying or steaming are two quick and easy cooking methods.
  • Serve immediately: Seasoned soybean sprouts are best served immediately after cooking.

Conclusion:

Seasoned soybean sprouts are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed as a side dish, appetizer, or main course. With their vibrant color, crisp texture, and savory flavor, soybean sprouts are a great addition to any meal. Whether you're looking for a quick and easy weeknight dinner or a dish to impress your guests, seasoned soybean sprouts are sure to please.
