HOMEMADE CRISPY SEASONED FRENCH FRIES

Homemade Crispy Seasoned French Fries image

My family loves French fries and with 4 children the bag fries from the store just weren't enough and became too expensive. So I tried batter - after all it makes chicken, shrimp, and onion rings crispy so why not potatoes. Now even my husband can't get enough of these French fries. They even stay crispy when you reheat in the microwave.

Time 25m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 ½ pounds russet potatoes, peeled
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon onion salt
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
½ cup water, or as needed
1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Steps:

  • Slice potatoes into French fries, and place into cold water so they won't turn brown while you prepare the oil.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. While the oil is heating, sift the flour, garlic salt, onion salt, (regular) salt, and paprika into a large bowl. Gradually stir in enough water so that the mixture can be drizzled from a spoon.
  • Dip potato slices into the batter one at a time, and place in the hot oil so they are not touching at first. The fries must be placed into the skillet one at a time, or they will clump together. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

5 cups frozen crinkle cut french fries
1 teaspoon onion salt
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Arrange french fries in a greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. Sprinkle with onion salt and paprika; stir to coat.
  • Bake at 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese; stir to coat.

Tips:

  • Use russet potatoes for the best results. They have a high starch content that makes them crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes before frying. This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized strips. This will help them to cook evenly.
  • Fry the potatoes in hot oil. The ideal temperature is between 325°F and 350°F.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan. This will cause the fries to steam instead of fry.
  • Cook the fries until they are golden brown and crispy. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain the fries on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Season the fries with your favorite seasonings. Some popular options include salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and chili powder.
  • Serve the fries hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Seasoned French fries are a delicious and versatile side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for parties, picnics, and potlucks. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make seasoned French fries at home that are just as good as the ones you get from your favorite restaurant.
