Tips:

  • Prep the Cornish hens: Rinse the hens inside and out and pat them dry. Remove any excess fat or giblets. For extra flavor, consider spatchcocking the hens (flattening them out) before cooking.
  • Season the hens generously: Use a combination of your favorite herbs, spices, and seasonings to create a flavor-packed rub. Common choices include salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and thyme. Be sure to season the cavity of the hens as well.
  • Roast the hens at a high temperature: This will help to crisp the skin and lock in the juices. Start by roasting the hens at 450°F (230°C) for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue roasting for another 30-40 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Baste the hens regularly: This will help to keep them moist and prevent them from drying out. Use a mixture of melted butter, olive oil, and herbs to baste the hens every 15-20 minutes.
  • Let the hens rest before serving: Once the hens are cooked, remove them from the oven and let them rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful dish.

Conclusion:

Cornish hens are a delicious and versatile main course option that can be enjoyed for any occasion. With their tender meat and crispy skin, they are sure to be a hit with your family and friends. Whether you choose to roast them, grill them, or bake them, there are endless possibilities for creating flavorful and satisfying Cornish hen dishes. So next time you're looking for a special meal, give Cornish hens a try. You won't be disappointed!
