"THAT CRAB STUFF" AKA LAYERED SEAFOOD DIP

This is one of my significant other, Larry's, absolute favorite appetizers for me to make for football parties and any other get together we go to. It is easy to put together when you need something in a hurry.

Provided by Sheila Kremer

Categories     Seafood Appetizers

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 pkg 8 oz. each cream cheese, softened
1/4 c mayonnaise
1 pkg good seasons garlic and herb dry salad dressing mix
1 bottle seafood cocktail sauce
1 pkg (12 oz.) imitation crab
1 pkg tiny shrimp
1 c finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
old bay seasoning

Steps:

  • 1. Soften cream cheese at room temperature. While this is softening, finely chop the package of imitation crab and set aside.
  • 2. With hand mixer, beat cream cheese with the mayonnaise until smooth and then beat in the dry garlic and herb dressing mix.
  • 3. Spread the cream cheese mixture on a large platter.
  • 4. Spread a layer of cocktail sauce over the cream cheese mixture.
  • 5. Put imitation crab and shrimp over the cocktail sauce. Sprinkle lightly with Old Bay seasoning.
  • 6. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Serve and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Mise en place: As with any cooking, having all of your ingredients prepared and measured before you start will make the process go much smoother.
  • Use fresh seafood: The fresher the seafood, the better the dip will taste. If you can, try to buy seafood that was caught or harvested within the last day or two.
  • Don't overcook the seafood: Seafood cooks very quickly, so be careful not to overcook it. Overcooked seafood will be tough and chewy.
  • Use a good quality mayonnaise: The mayonnaise is one of the main ingredients in this dip, so it's important to use a good quality one. Look for a mayonnaise that is made with real eggs and oil.
  • Season the dip to taste: Once you've added all of the ingredients, taste the dip and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice.

Conclusion:

Seafood dip is a delicious and easy appetizer that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It's perfect for parties, potlucks, or any other gathering.
