1 cup milk (or just over depending on the size of cup you choose)
one bag earl grey tea
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg

  • bring the milk to a boil on the stove, careful not to burn it. (If you're short on time or looking for a quicker more convenient alternative to the stove, you can always use the microwave, but be careful not to blow it up. try 1 minute intervals and stir in between each to avoid heat pockets.).
  • remove the milk from the stove and pour into glass or mug whichever you prefer and add the tea bag. let steep for 3-6 minutes depending how strong you like it. (I recommend somewhere in the middle!).
  • stir in the nutmeg (optional, but it ads some extra yummy flavour!) and sprinkle the cinnamon on top. voila!

LONDON FOG (FROM SCRATCH)

London Fog (From Scratch) image

An inexpensive and surprisingly easy take on the coffeehouse treat made with everyday ingredients and everyday utensils. Tastes quite creamy with 2% milk, but is also good with 1%. To make the vanilla syrup extra fancy, leave a vanilla pod in 4 cups of white sugar overnight and substitute 1 cup of this for the regular sugar. Another note - the syrup's consistency is just a bit thicker than water. Once you have this syrup on hand, it only takes about 10 minutes to prepare the drink.

2 cups water
2 Earl Grey teabags
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons vanilla-flavored syrup
1 cup water
1 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Tips:

  • Use Fresh Earl Grey Tea: Fresh Earl Grey tea leaves or sachets will impart the best flavor to your London Fog. Look for high-quality tea brands that offer loose-leaf or whole-leaf tea.
  • Choose High-Quality Vanilla Syrup: Opt for a good-quality vanilla syrup made with real vanilla extract. You can find vanilla syrup at most grocery stores or online.
  • Use Steamed Milk: Steaming the milk creates a velvety texture and enhances the flavors of the tea and vanilla syrup. If you don't have a milk frother or steamer, you can warm the milk in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent scalding.
  • Garnish with Fresh Lemon Zest: A sprinkle of fresh lemon zest adds a bright, citrusy aroma and flavor to the London Fog. Use a microplane zester or a fine grater to zest the lemon.
  • Experiment with Different Milk Alternatives: For a dairy-free London Fog, try using almond milk, oat milk, or soy milk. These alternatives provide a creamy texture and subtle nutty or sweet flavors.

Conclusion:

The London Fog is a delightful and comforting tea-based beverage that combines the flavors of Earl Grey tea, vanilla, and steamed milk. It's a perfect drink to enjoy on a cozy afternoon or as a relaxing bedtime treat. With its simple ingredients and easy preparation, the London Fog is a great choice for tea enthusiasts and those looking for a warm and flavorful drink. Whether you prefer it classic or with a twist, this versatile beverage offers a satisfying experience that's sure to become a favorite.
