SCRABBLE MIX

SCRABBLE MIX image

We used to go to Yuma for the winter and this is one of the recipes that I got from one of our camping friends. I made them and took to one of our family reunions and they were eaten up fast. My Son loved to pick out the nuts. Great times and lots of fun.

Time 3h35m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 Tbsp Beau Monde seasoning salt
1 Tbsp Old hickory smoked salt
1 tsp summer savory
1 tsp marjoram

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Dash of tabasco
1 cup vegetable oil
3 boxes cereal--cheerios, rice/wheat/corn chex or crispix, your choice

2 cups pretzels (I use 1 bag of pretzel sticks, rings or tree shaped)
3/4 lb butter

Steps:

  • Mix dry and liquid spices together, add to oil in blender or food processor. Mix well. Let stand for 1 hour, blend occasionally.
  • Divide cereal, nuts and pretzels between 2 large roaster pans in layers, cereals, nuts, pretzels. Pour spice mix over with large spoon, stir cereal mix frequently and re-blend spice mix occasionally. Divide cut slices of butter over cereal mix.
  • Bake in 250 degrees F oven for 45 min, stir every 15 min. Cool. Store in air tight containers.

SCRAMBLE MIX

Scramble Mix image

This is the end result of a number of recipes that I have tried and adapted over the years. The most recent "tweaking" is the use of Bugles instead of cheese crackers, an idea I gleaned from Recipezaar and which my son tells me was an excellent change. I make multiple roast pans full of this over the course of each Christmas season.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 1h40m

Yield 14 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

4 cups small pretzels
2 -3 cups cheese nips (I substitute Bugles)
4 cups Cheerios toasted oat cereal (type oat cereal)
4 cups Life Cereal (square cereal or Chex etc.)
1/2 cup melted margarine
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 -3 dashes hot sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Mix first 4 ingredients in roasting pan.
  • In a measuring cup mix together remaining ingredients & pour over cereal mixture.
  • I cook uncovered and every 15 to 30 minutes I remove from oven, cover and shake to mix thoroughly.
  • Continue for 30 to 90 minutes, or until mixture is hot throughout. I usually double the recipe (hence the range of cooking time) and let dry for a while in the oven after I have turned it off.
