8 cups thinly sliced cabbage (2-2-1/2 pounds)
2 large carrots, shredded
1 medium onion, finely chopped
5 tablespoons butter, divided
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 cups whole milk
1-1/2 cups shredded process American cheese
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1 teaspoon dried thyme

Steps:

  • Place 1 in. of water, cabbage and carrots in a large skillet; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until crisp-tender. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, saute the onion in 3 tablespoons of butter until tender. Stir in the flour, salt and pepper; cook until bubbly. 1 medium green pepper, finely chopped
1/4 cup butter
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 cups coarsely crushed sour cream and chive croutons, divided
1 cup milk or half-and-half cream
