1/2 pound sliced baby portobello mushrooms
1 small onion, halved and sliced
1 beef top sirloin steak (1 pound), cubed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons olive oil
1/3 cup dry red wine or beef broth
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup cold water
Hot cooked mashed potatoes

Steps:

  • Place mushrooms and onion in a 3-qt. slow cooker. Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat 1 teaspoon oil over medium-high heat; brown meat in batches, adding more oil as needed. 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups vegetable juice, V-8 NOT tomato juice
1 (7/8 ounce) envelope brown gravy mix
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon thyme

Steps:
