My favorite way to prepare mushrooms. Even if you don't like mushrooms, you'll like these. Great served over steaks or mashed potatoes. Adjust seasonings to taste.

Steps:
- Heat a large skillet to high heat and add the oil. Wait 1 or 2 minutes for it to come up to the smoking point. Add the onion and garlic and toss furiously so that the garlic doesn't burn. When the onions become translucent add the mushrooms and toss until all mushrooms are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from the heat. Add butter and thyme and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Serve immediately.
- Cook's Note: Never run mushrooms directly under water; they will absorb water like a sponge, and your saute will be far too soggy. Instead, using a slightly damp paper towel, wipe mushrooms down. Alternatively, use pastry brush and dust the dirt from the mushrooms.
SAUTEED MUSHROOMS
This technique for washing and sauteing mushrooms provides a different texture and deep flavor to our sautéed mushroom recipe. Our method ensures your mushrooms are sautéed perfectly without becoming soggy. Serve sautéed mushrooms over polenta or steak, or folded into risotto.

OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE SAUTEED MUSHROOMS
I LOVE going to the Outback and ordering this side with my steak. I could eat these alone! This is a copycat recipe; one I have had saved but have yet to try. But if this recipe is a true copycat of what I have eaten at Outback, you will not be sorry!

Tips:
- For the best flavor, use fresh mushrooms. If you can't find fresh mushrooms, you can use dried mushrooms, but be sure to soak them in warm water for 30 minutes before cooking. - Use a variety of mushrooms for different flavors and textures. Some good options include cremini mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, and oyster mushrooms. - Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the mushrooms. This will prevent them from cooking evenly and will make them more likely to steam rather than sauté. - Cook the mushrooms over medium-high heat. This will help them to brown and develop a nice flavor. - Don't stir the mushrooms too often. This will prevent them from getting too mushy. - Season the mushrooms with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste. - Serve the sautéed mushrooms immediately. They can be served as a side dish or as a main course. Conclusion:
Sautéed mushrooms are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. They are a great addition to any meal and can be made with just a few simple ingredients. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy side dish or main course, give sautéed mushrooms a try. You won't be disappointed!
