Number Of Ingredients 9

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 Tbsp baking powder
2 Tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 cup oil
2/3 cup milk
2 lb hot sausage

Steps:

  • Combine dry ingredients. Stir in oil until mixture resembles course crumbs. Add milk and stir until mixture forms a ball. Roll half of dough into 10"x18" rectangle. Spread with 1 lb sausage. Roll up as for jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining dough and sausage. Chill for several hours. (I sometimes will freeze the dough at this point if I'm making them ahead. Or partially freeze it to make the roll easier to cut.) Slice rolls into 1/4" rounds. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes, until slightly browned. Serve warm, but not hot.

My family and friends loves it. I make them for Christmas morning and parties and occasions. It is so easy to fix it and they are so good and tasty.

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 2

2 8 oz cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
1 lb ground jim dean sausage mild for kids, hot for adults, or sage if you prefer

Steps:

  • 1. Separate 1 can of dough and form into 4 rectangles. Firmly press perforations to seal. Take the uncooked sausage and cut into 8 chunks. Using 4 chunks of the sausage, spread thin layer on each rectangle. Starting at the short end, roll each rectangle tightly into a cylinder. Repeat with other can of dough and sausage. Place on a plate, cover with plastic wrap and chill until firm, about 30 minutes. Cut each roll into 4 slices. Preheat oven to 375. Place sausage swirls 1/2 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 18-20 minutes.
  • 2. We love to dip them in mustard! Yummy!

Tips:

  • For the best results, use high-quality sausage. Look for sausage that is made with fresh, flavorful meat and spices.
  • If you don't have a food processor, you can chop the sausage and cheese by hand. Just be sure to chop them finely so that they distribute evenly throughout the dough.
  • Don't overwork the dough. Overworking the dough will make it tough. Just mix it until the ingredients are well combined.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk.
  • When shaping the swirls, be sure to roll them up tightly. This will help to keep the filling inside the dough.
  • Bake the swirls until they are golden brown and cooked through. This will usually take about 20 minutes.
  • Serve the swirls warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Conclusion:

Sausage swirls are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. They are perfect for parties or potlucks. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a tasty treat that everyone will love. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, give sausage swirls a try.
