Time 50m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb turkey sausage, casing removed (or Italian sausage)
2 cups sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)
1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
1 loaf French baguette, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 4-6 cups cubed)
1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1/2 cup fresh parsley leaves, chopped
1 1/2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth (or more as needed)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (or if cooking inside turkey, preheat to 450°F).
  • Place a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • When pan is hot, add sausage and cook 3 to 5 minutes, until browned and cooked through, breaking up the meat as it cooks.
  • Add mushrooms, onion, garlic, and poultry seasoning and cook 3 minutes, until mushrooms soften.
  • Transfer mixture to a large bowl and add bread cubes, artichoke hearts, cheese, parsley, and 1 1/2 cups broth.
  • Toss to combine, allowing liquid to soften bread cubes. If stuffing seems dry, add more broth to soak cubes.
  • Bake stuffing at 325°F for 30 minutes in shallow baking dish.
  • ** If cooking in turkey: Loosely stuff bread mixture into turkey (extra stuffing can be baked in shallow dish next to the turkey). Place turkey in preheated oven and immediately reduce oven temperature to 325°F Roast turkey 20 minutes per pound, or until an instant-read thermometer registers 180-185°F.

Cornbread Spicy Sausage Stuffing/ Dressing image

Sausage loaded dressing. Recipe #407287 was used to flavor the stuffing but your favored poultry seasoning will work fine. This makes enough to stuff the bird and have a casserole for crisper dressing. Leftovers can be frozen for future use.

SAUSAGE STUFFING (DRESSING) RECIPE - (4/5)

Sausage Stuffing (Dressing) Recipe - (4/5) image

Provided by rhongaut

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb. Tennessee Pride sausage (mild or sage)
2 cups onion, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped
2 tsp. Sage, fresh
1 tsp. Marjoram, dried
1/3 cup parsley, fresh, chopped
2 cups chicken broth
2 Tbs. butter
10 cups dry bread cubes
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cook sausage in large skillet until browned. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Cook onion and celery in drippings in skillet until tender. Combine sausage, cooked vegetables, sage, marjoram, bread cubes, and parsley in large mixing bowl; blend well. Stir in chicken broth to moisten. Season with salt and pepper. Stuff mixture into turkey and roast according to standard roasting directions. Or spread mixture into greased 9 x 13 x 2" baking dish, dot with butter, cover and bake in 350 F oven for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes more or until golden brown.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of sausage: Try a combination of breakfast sausage, Italian sausage, or spicy sausage for a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overcook the sausage: Overcooked sausage will be dry and tough. Cook it until it is just cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like sage, thyme, and rosemary add a lot of flavor to stuffing. Use about 1/4 cup of chopped herbs per pound of sausage.
  • Add some moisture: A little bit of broth or chicken stock will help keep the stuffing moist. You can also add some chopped apples, celery, or carrots.
  • Bake the stuffing until it is golden brown: This will give it a crispy crust and help it hold its shape.

Conclusion:

Sausage stuffing is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served with a variety of main courses. It's also a great way to use up leftover sausage. With a few simple tips, you can make sausage stuffing that is moist, flavorful, and perfect for any occasion.
