1 medium spaghetti squash, halved and seeded
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (14 ounce) package Hillshire Farm® Smoked Sausage, bias-sliced 1/2-inch thick
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
½ cup pre-made basil pesto

Tips:

  • Use a variety of sausages: Different types of sausage, such as Italian, chorizo, or bratwurst, will add different flavors to your skillet dish. Try experimenting with different combinations to find your favorites.
  • Sauté the vegetables until they are tender-crisp: This will help them retain their nutrients and flavor. Additionally, this will ensure that they have a slightly caramelized texture.
  • Use a flavorful cooking oil: Olive oil, avocado oil, or ghee are all good choices. Cooking oil will help to brown the sausage and vegetables and add flavor to the dish.
  • Season the dish generously: Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder are all good basic seasonings. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste, such as paprika, cumin, or chili powder.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet: If you overcrowd the skillet, the vegetables will steam instead of sautéing. This will result in a mushy, bland dish.
  • Serve immediately: This dish is best served hot out of the skillet. If you need to make it ahead of time, you can reheat it gently over low heat.

Conclusion:

Sausage squash skillet is a quick, easy, and flavorful one-pan meal that is perfect for busy weeknights. It is also a great way to use up leftover sausage or vegetables. With its simple ingredients and delicious flavor, this dish is sure to become a family favorite.
