Tips:

  • Choose your sausage wisely: The type of sausage you use will greatly impact the flavor of your sloppy joes, so choose one that you enjoy the taste of. Breakfast sausage is a popular choice, but you could also use Italian sausage, chorizo, or even a vegetarian sausage.
  • Brown the sausage thoroughly: This will help to develop its flavor and prevent it from being greasy. Cook the sausage over medium heat until it is browned all the way through.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what really makes sloppy joes special, so don't skimp on it. Use a sauce that you love, or experiment with different recipes until you find one that you like. Some popular options include ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Let the sloppy joes simmer: This will help to meld the flavors together and make the sauce even more delicious. Simmer the sloppy joes for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes for a richer flavor.
  • Serve on your favorite bun: Sloppy joes are traditionally served on hamburger buns, but you could also use hot dog buns, slider buns, or even bread slices. Choose a bun that you think will hold up well to the sloppy joe sauce.
