SAUSAGE & VEGGIE QUICHE RECIPE BY TASTY

Sausage & Veggie Quiche Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: chicken sausage, onion, mushroom, fresh spinach, salt, black pepper, eggs, milk, premade pie crust, parmesan cheese

Provided by Jordan Kenna

Categories     Dinner

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

½ lb chicken sausage
½ cup onion, chopped
½ cup mushroom, chopped
4 oz fresh spinach, chopped
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 premade pie crust, thawed
parmesan cheese, grated

Steps:

  • Cook sausage over medium-high until lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes, being sure to break up the meat into a fine mince.
  • Remove cooked sausage from pan and wipe away excess fat with a paper towel.
  • Add onion and sauté until softened and translucent, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add mushrooms, salt, and pepper and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  • Add chopped spinach and cook until wilted and no extra liquid has accumulated in the bottom of the pan.
  • NOTE: Do your best to use the excessive moisture of the spinach and mushrooms to deglaze the bottom of the pan, scraping away any browned bits from cooking the sausage earlier.
  • Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
  • Once cooked, remove the spinach and mushroom mixture from the pan and combine it with the reserved cooked sausage. Stir to mix evenly.
  • Combine eggs and milk. Lightly whisk until just combined.
  • Add sausage and spinach mixture to the bottom of a prepared 9-inch (23cm) pie crust, making sure to spread it evenly.
  • Pour in beaten eggs to fill the rest of the pie crust and top with a generous sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
  • Bake at 350˚F (180˚C) for 25 minutes or until the eggs are set and the top is lightly browned. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  • Enjoy!

APPLE SAUSAGE QUICHE

Apple Sausage Quiche image

This cheese and sausage quiche is slightly sweet from the chopped apple. Prebaking the pastry, without the filling, ensures a crisp crust. I found this recipe in a Southern Living cookbook. We enjoyed it!

Provided by SweetsLady

Categories     Breakfast

Time 55m

Yield 1 quiche, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

9 inches pastry shells, unbaked
1 cup apple, peeled, chopped (I used a Granny Smith)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 dash salt and pepper
3/4 cup onion, chopped
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 lb pork sausage (Use mild sausage for a tamer quiche or hot sausage to pump up the flavor.)
4 large eggs, beaten
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 dash ground red pepper
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Fit pastry into 9 inch quiche dish. (I used a pie pan). Prick bottom and sides of pastry with fork. Bake at 450 for 8-10 minutes; cool on wire rack.
  • Combine apple, and next 3 ingredients; toss well. Cook apple mixture and onion in butter in large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until onion is tender. Remove from heat, and cool 20 minutes.
  • Brown sausage in large skillet, stirring until it crumbles and is done; drain well. Combine eggs and next 3 ingredients in large bowl. Add apple mixture and sausage to egg mixture; stir well.

SAUSAGE AND SPINACH QUICHE

Sausage and Spinach Quiche image

This is my favorite, I make it at least weekly. Good flavorful sausage is key, I like the regular jimmy dean. This recipe is for two pies because I make two at once. They go fast, freeze well, and that means less dishes later.

Provided by celestial_star03

Categories     Breakfast

Time 1h5m

Yield 2 Pies, 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 deep dish pie shells
16 ounces jimmy dean sausage
8 eggs
3/4 cup half-and-half
8 ounces frozen spinach, boxed
2 cups fiesta shredded cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Cook sausage till browned, breaking it up as you go, drain on paper towels and set aside.
  • Thaw spinach in microwave or if you are cooking fresh you will need almost double. I like the finely chopped that is in a box for 1.00.
  • Get out your pie crusts and line the bottoms with half the spinach, and sausage each.
  • In a larger bowl combine all of the cheese but a handful, the eggs, half and half, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour half of the mixture into each shell and sprinkle the remaining handful of cheese over both.
  • Bake at 350 about 40-45 minutes. You can do a toothpick test, try not to overbake, your eggs won't be as fluffy.
  • if your pie crusts are browning too fast you can cover them in foil just not the whole pie, you want a pretty light golden top and the air to make it rise.
  • Serve warm. You can make the pies the night before and bake in the morning or they do reheat well. If you are freezing let it cool completely then portion out and wrap each slice individually or wrap the whole thing and freeze.

  • In a bowl blend together the flour, the butter, the shortening, and a pinch of salt until the mixture resembles meal, add 1 1/2 tablespoons ice water, and toss the mixture until the water is incorporated, adding more water if necessary to form the dough into a ball. Pat the dough into 7 1/2-inch tart pan with a removable rim and bake the shell in the bottom third of a preheated 425°F. oven for 7 minutes, or until it is just golden.
  • While the shell is baking, in a large skillet cook the sausage with the bell peppers, covered, over moderately high heat, stirring and breaking up any lumps, for 7 minutes, or until the sausage is no longer pink and the bell peppers are soft, and drain the mixture, discarding the excess fat. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, stir in the remaining salt, the Cheddar, and the Parmesan, and spread the mixture in the bottom of the shell. In a bowl whisk together the eggs, the cream, and the milk, pour the egg mixture over the sausage mixture, and bake the quiche on a baking sheet in the middle of a preheated 425°F. oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F. and bake the quiche for 10 minutes more.

Tips:

  • Use good quality sausage: The sausage is the star of the show in this quiche, so make sure you use a good quality, flavorful sausage. Breakfast sausage, Italian sausage, or chorizo are all great options.
  • Don't overcook the sausage: Overcooked sausage will be tough and dry. Cook it just until it is cooked through.
  • Use a deep-dish pie plate: A deep-dish pie plate will give your quiche plenty of room to rise and prevent it from overflowing.
  • Preheat the oven: Always preheat the oven before baking the quiche. This will help ensure that the quiche cooks evenly.
  • Let the quiche cool before slicing: Allow the quiche to cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing. This will help it set and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Sausage quiche is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a few simple tips, you can make a sausage quiche that is sure to impress your family and friends.
