Tips:
- Choose the right mushrooms. Large, firm mushrooms with intact stems are best for stuffing. Cremini, portobello, and shiitake mushrooms are all good choices.
- Prepare the mushrooms properly. Remove the stems from the mushrooms and finely chop them. Save the stems for another use, such as making soup or stock.
- Use a variety of fillings. Sausage, squash, cornbread crumbs, and cheese are all classic stuffing ingredients. But you can also use other ingredients, such as cooked rice, quinoa, vegetables, or nuts.
- Season the stuffing well. Use a combination of herbs, spices, and salt and pepper to flavor the stuffing.
- Stuff the mushrooms tightly. This will help to keep the stuffing in place during baking.
- Bake the mushrooms until they are tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the mushrooms and the type of filling you are using.
