SAUERKRAUT AND SAUSAGE - CROCK POT

Sauerkraut and Sausage - Crock Pot image

I've made a few changes from the way mom made this... I remember coming home from school & smelling the sauerkraut cooking. My brother and I would get more excited about the kraut than if we came home to find fresh baked cookies! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The best thing about this is that it keeps pretty well & is always better the 2nd day.

Tips:

  • Choose a good quality sausage: Opt for a flavorful sausage that will hold its own against the sauerkraut and other ingredients. Look for sausages with a good balance of spices and seasonings.
  • Brown the sausage before adding it to the pot: This will help to develop its flavor and give it a nice crispy texture.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: In addition to sauerkraut, consider adding other vegetables such as onions, carrots, celery, and potatoes. This will add flavor and texture to the dish.
  • Use a good quality sauerkraut: Look for sauerkraut that is not too sour or vinegary. You can also make your own sauerkraut at home if you have the time.
  • Simmer the dish for at least 30 minutes: This will allow the flavors to meld and develop. Serve the dish with mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, or egg noodles.
