SAUSAGE & PEPPERS SLIDERS

Yield makes 8 sliders

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 tablespoons EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil)
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1/2 small red bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
1/2 small green bell pepper or 1 small cubanelle pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper
1 pound bulk sweet or hot Italian sausage or sausage links, casing removed
8 cubes of Provolone cheese, 1/2 inch thick and 1 inch square
8 small dinner rolls or packaged slider rolls, such as Pepperidge Farm brand, split open and toasted

Steps:

  • Place a large skillet over medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons of EVOO. Add the onions, bell peppers, and garlic to the pan and cook until the veggies are tender, 7 to 8 minutes. When the veggies are tender, add the Worcestershire and season with salt and pepper.
  • While the veggies are cooking, place a second skillet over medium-high heat with the remaining tablespoon of EVOO. Shape the sausage into thin patties and wrap the meat around the cubed cheese. Cook the patties for 4 minutes on each side, or until they're deep brown and firm.
  • Place the patties on roll bottoms and top with the peppers and onions. Set the roll tops in place and serve.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of peppers. Bell peppers come in a variety of colors and flavors, so feel free to mix and match to create a more flavorful dish. Some good options include green, red, yellow, and orange bell peppers.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different types of sausage. Italian sausage is a classic choice, but you can also use breakfast sausage, chorizo, or even kielbasa. Just make sure to cook the sausage thoroughly before adding it to the sliders.
  • Use a good quality cheese. The cheese is one of the most important ingredients in these sliders, so don't skimp on quality. Use a cheese that melts well and has a good flavor, such as mozzarella, cheddar, or provolone.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. When cooking the peppers and sausage, make sure not to overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the ingredients from cooking evenly.
  • Serve the sliders immediately. Sausage and pepper sliders are best served immediately after they are made. This will ensure that the bread is soft and the cheese is melted.

Conclusion:

Sausage and pepper sliders are a quick and easy meal that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up leftover sausage and peppers. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
