Tips:

  • Fresh or frozen saskatoon berries: You can use either fresh or frozen saskatoon berries in this recipe. If using frozen berries, thaw them before adding them to the batter.
  • Sweetener: The amount of sweetener you add to the muffins will depend on the sweetness of your berries. If your berries are very sweet, you may only need to add 1/3 cup of sugar or honey. If your berries are tart, you may need to add up to 1/2 cup of sweetener.
  • Sour cream or yogurt: Sour cream or yogurt adds moisture and richness to the muffins. If you don't have either on hand, you can substitute milk or water, but the muffins will be less moist.
  • Baking time: The baking time will vary depending on the size of your muffin tins and the oven you are using. Start checking the muffins for doneness after 20 minutes. They are done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
