Tips:

  • Use the right chili peppers: The type of chili peppers you use will determine the heat level of your chili. For a mild chili, use Anaheim or poblano peppers. For a medium-hot chili, use cayenne or guajillo peppers. For a hot chili, use habanero or serrano peppers.

  • Use a variety of vegetables: Vegetables add flavor, texture, and nutrients to chili. Common vegetables used in chili include onions, garlic, bell peppers, carrots, and corn. Feel free to experiment with other vegetables, such as zucchini, squash, or mushrooms.
  • Add beans or lentils: Beans and lentils are a great way to add protein and fiber to chili. They also help to thicken the chili and make it more filling. Common beans used in chili include kidney beans, pinto beans, and black beans. Common lentils used in chili include brown lentils and green lentils.
  • Season the chili to taste: Once the chili is cooked, taste it and adjust the seasonings as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, chili powder, or cumin. You can also add a bit of sugar or honey to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
