These bars are easy to make and everyone loves them! I usually make them for the holidays and set them out as part of a dessert/cookie plate. They work well cut into 1-inch squares. Real butter is the key to the rich flavor. These will also keep in the freezer for up to 3 weeks.

  • Toast the nuts before using them to enhance their flavor. To do this, spread the nuts in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • If you don't have time to toast the nuts, you can use raw nuts instead. Just be sure to chop them finely so that they distribute evenly throughout the roll.
  • For a sweeter roll, add 1/2 cup of sugar to the filling. You can also add other spices, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, to taste.
  • To make the roll ahead of time, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to serve, let it come to room temperature for 30 minutes before unwrapping.
