This recipe for homemade Mexican-style salsa is hands down the best salsa you'll ever eat. Tomatoes and peppers are perfectly charred on the stovetop before they're blended with the other ingredients. So good and simple!

6 medium size vine ripened tomatoes (stem removed)
2 jalapeno peppers
1 poblano pepper
1 cup green onion (diced)
1 lime (juice of)
1 cup canned diced tomatoes
1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder or sea salt

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet to medium high heat. Place tomatoes and peppers in the skillet.
  • Continue to saute, rotating the vegetables occasionally, so several sides begin to blister. See photos above. This will take around 20 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • Once cooled, chop off the stems of the peppers, and remove the seeds from the jalapeño (you can also keep some seeds for more heat in your salsa). Cut the vegetables into large pieces.
  • Place tomatoes, peppers, onions, lime, and canned tomatoes into a blender and pulse quickly until just mixed (about 5 seconds). Add garlic, cilantro, and bouillon. Pulse for another 15 seconds until well blended but chunky.
  • Place in a large bowl and refrigerate until cooled before serving. Serve with your favorite Mexican dish or with chips.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 can(s) 28 ounces, of crushed tomatoes
1 medium vidalia onion cut in fourths
1/4 c fresh lime juice (seeds removed) or a little more if desired
3 clove fresh garlic peeled
5 Tbsp of pickled jalapeno rings and 5 tablespoons juice from the jar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 c fresh cilantro chopped
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder

Steps:

  • 1. Put all of the above ingredients into a blender. Blend on high until all is liquified smooth and well blended. You may have to work in small batches. Taste to adjust the flavors as needed. If you like more heat add more jalapenos, if you want more earthy flavor add a bit more cumin powder, If you want more garlic or salt go for it. If you like the taste of cilantro add a little more.
  • 2. Pour into a bottle type plastic container. Keep refrigerated until ready for use. Serve over any of your favorite dishes. Will keep for about a week in the frig. Enjoy

Two 10-ounce cans diced tomatoes with green chiles, such as Rotel
One 28-ounce can whole tomatoes in juice
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 habanero chile, seeded and chopped
1 jalapeno, quartered and sliced thin (with seeds and membrane)
1 canned chipotle in adobo sauce
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sugar
Juice of 1 lime

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor (see Cook's Note), combine the diced tomatoes, whole tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, chiles, hot sauce, cumin, salt, sugar and lime juice. Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you like; I do about 10 to 15 pulses. Test seasonings with a tortilla chip, if you dare. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
