This spicy salmon marinade recipe makes the most flavorful salmon, made with soy sauce, spicy brown mustard, chili flakes and more. Super easy to make.

Provided by Mike Hultquist

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/4 cup soy sauce
¼ cup olive oil
3 tablespoons brown mustard (I use spicy brown mustard)
2 tablespoons honey (or use brown sugar)
2 tablespoons lemon juice (or juice from ½ lemon)
1 serrano pepper (diced (or use even hotter peppers to really spice things up - optional, for extra spicy))
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Red pepper flakes to taste (use ¼ to 1 teaspoon, or to taste)
2 6- ounce salmon fillets

Steps:

  • Whisk together the soy sauce, olive oil, honey or brown sugar, mustard, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt and red pepper flakes in a mixing bowl until well combined.
  • Place the salmon in a large zip-lock bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and refrigerate at least 15 to 20 minutes, or for 1 hour before cooking.

SALMON WITH LEMON-HERB MARINADE

Salmon With Lemon-Herb Marinade image

Here's one of the easiest ways to entertain: broil or grill a large salmon fillet, then adorn it with lemon wedges and rosemary sprigs. This recipe marinates the rich salmon in lemon juice, soy sauce and herbs. Serve it with a sharply flavored potato salad (like this one, with red Bliss potatoes and watercress in a yogurt-horseradish dressing) and a large bowl of greens.

SPICY SALMON MARINADE

Spicy Salmon Marinade image

This white wine, rosemary, and garlic marinade is given a kick with crushed red pepper and hot sauce. As written, the heat level is mild, but adjust to your tastes by adding more hot sauce or a spicier hot sauce. I like to use a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, and serve the rest of the bottle chilled with dinner. This salmon tastes best when cooked on an outdoor grill.

Time 2h5m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (1 1/2-pound) skin-on center-cut salmon fillet
6 fluid ounces dry white wine
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon hot sauce
½ teaspoon dried rosemary
½ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Cut fish into 4 portions.
  • Whisk together wine, olive oil, garlic, pepper flakes, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Pour over salmon and seal bag closed, letting out excess air. Place in refrigerator for 1 hour, turning after 30 minutes. Remove salmon from the marinade, letting excess drip off, and place on a plate to stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. Discard any remaining marinade.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Place salmon flesh-side down on the hot grill. Close the lid and grill for 3 minutes. Flip and grill an additional 3 to 4 more minutes. Sprinkle with salt before serving, if desired.

Tips:

  • Select Fresh Salmon Fillets: For the best results, choose wild-caught, skinless, and boneless salmon fillets. Check for a vibrant pink color and firm texture.
  • Marinate the Salmon: The marinade is key to infusing flavor into the salmon. Combine lemon zest, juice, garlic, ginger, chili powder, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Let the salmon fillets soak in this marinade for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.
  • Grill or Pan-Fry the Salmon: You can cook the marinated salmon fillets either on a grill or in a pan. If grilling, preheat the grill to medium-high heat and cook the salmon for 8-10 minutes per side, or until cooked through. If pan-frying, heat a large skillet over medium heat with some olive oil. Add the salmon fillets and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve with Desired Sides: Roasted vegetables, quinoa, or a green salad are all great accompaniments to the spicy lemon salmon.

Conclusion:

This spicy lemon marinade transforms ordinary salmon fillets into a flavorful and delightful meal. The combination of lemon, garlic, ginger, and spices creates a zesty and aromatic crust, while the tender and succulent salmon inside melts in your mouth. Whether you choose to grill or pan-fry the salmon, this recipe is sure to impress your family and friends. The marinade not only adds flavor but also helps keep the salmon moist and juicy. Serve this dish with your favorite sides for a complete and satisfying meal.
