Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Grease and flour cake pan. Cream butter until fluffy with a mixer. Add sugar and cream for another 7 minutes. Add eggs one egg at a time, beating well after each one. Add flour and milk (alternating to creamed mixture), beginning and ending with flour. Add vanilla and butter flavoring to mix; until just mixed. Divide batter equally into three cake pans. Hold each layer about 3 inches above your counter and carefully drop the pans flat onto counter several times to ensure release of any air bubbles. This will help you have a more level cake. Bake for 25 - 30 minutes (depending on your oven) until done. Cool in pans for 5 - 10 minutes. Remove and immediately wrap each layer in plastic wrap to seal in moisture. Cool completely on wire racks. ICING: Beat together shortening and vanilla for 30 seconds on medium speed with an electric mixer. Add 2 cups of powdered sugar a bit at a time while beating. Add 2 tablespoons milk. Slowly add in the rest of the powdered sugar and the rest of the milk until you get the right thickness Frost and decorate to your liking! :)

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better your cake will taste. This is especially true for the milk, butter, and eggs.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter, more tender cake.
  • Gradually add the eggs to the batter, one at a time: This will help to prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake the cake at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time: A cake that is baked at too high a temperature or for too long will be dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

This Safeway-style cake is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist and tender crumb and creamy frosting, this cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special cake to make, be sure to give this recipe a try.
