1 1/2 tsp olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced and chopped
4 c water
2 Tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp corn syrup
1 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 c vinegar

Steps:

  • 1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute sliced onion in the oil for 5 minutes, until onions are soft, but not brown.
  • 2. Add water, tomato paste, corn syrup, cornstarch, salt and red pepper flakes, and stir. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes.
  • 3. Add vinegar. Continue to simmer for an additional 30 to 45 minutes or until most of the liquid has reduced and the sauce is thick.

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 pinch cinnamon
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 large red onions, peeled and sliced thin
1/4 teapoon table salt
2 teaspoons garlic, minced

Steps:

  • Combine the water and cornstarch in a bowl and whisk it until there are no more lumps. whisk in the tomato paste, balsamic, mustard, brown sugar, hot sauce, and cinnamon.
