RYE BOAT CHIPPED BEEF DIP
One of my mom's favorite dips that she used on her Christmas Eve buffet. You can put this in a hollowed out rye bread, or just serve with assorted crackers or raw veggies. It's addictive!

Steps:
- 1. Cut the chopped, smoked and pressed beef into approximately 3/4 inch pieces.
- 2. Mix all ingredients together. Best to mix a day ahead of time.
- 3. Cut out center of (unsliced) round loaf of rye (or other favorite bread), saving the cut out. Cut extra bread and cut out into large bite size pieces.
- 4. Place dip mixture into "rye boat".
- 5. Place cut or pulled pieces of breads and place around the boat.
- 6. Scoop up the dip with the bread pieces and enjoy!
Tips:
- Prepare the rye dough in advance: Allow enough time for the dough to rise properly, about 1-2 hours. This will ensure a light and airy texture for your rye boat.
- Use a Dutch oven or other covered baking dish: This will create a humid environment that helps the rye boat rise evenly and develop a crisp crust.
- Score the top of the rye boat before baking: This will allow steam to escape and prevent the bread from cracking.
- Bake the rye boat until it reaches an internal temperature of 200°F (93°C): This will ensure that the bread is cooked through.
- Allow the rye boat to cool completely before slicing: This will help to prevent the bread from crumbling.
Conclusion:
With its unique flavor and rustic charm, the rye boat is a delicious and versatile bread that can be enjoyed on its own or used to make sandwiches, croutons, or bread pudding. Its long history and cultural significance make it a beloved addition to any table. Whether you're a seasoned baker or just starting out, give this traditional rye bread a try and indulge in its wholesome goodness.
