Posted by request, this was my grandmother's recipe, handwritten on yellow lined note paper and dated "1972" along w/ a notation: "Easy to make." My grandmother was born in 1890 in Chichester, England, and moved to the US in the early 1900s. She was a very special lady, beloved of all her grandchildren. Recipe is exactly as written by my grandmother with no changes. Prep time and amount are estimates.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients, especially the chocolate. The better the chocolate, the better the rocks will be.
  • Make sure the chocolate is finely chopped. This will help it melt smoothly and evenly.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to melt the chocolate. This will help prevent it from burning.
  • Stir the chocolate constantly while melting. This will help prevent it from seizing.
  • Once the chocolate is melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. This will help prevent the chocolate from hardening too quickly.
  • Stir in the other ingredients, such as nuts, marshmallows, and pretzels, until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture into a lined baking pan and refrigerate until firm. This will take at least 2 hours.
  • Once the rocks are firm, cut them into pieces and enjoy!
