Posted by request, this was my grandmother's recipe, handwritten on yellow lined note paper and dated "1972" along w/ a notation: "Easy to make." My grandmother was born in 1890 in Chichester, England, and moved to the US in the early 1900s. She was a very special lady, beloved of all her grandchildren. Recipe is exactly as written by my grandmother with no changes. Prep time and amount are estimates.

MOM'S RAISIN ROCK COOKIES

Mom's Raisin Rock Cookies image

This was my mom's favorite cookie recipe. In fact, I don't remember her making any other cookies (besides chocolate chip). I think the "rocks" are the walnuts. I'm totally guessing at the "time to make" and number of cookies it makes because I bake cookies even less frequently than Mom did. Please feel free to correct

Tips:

  • To make the dough easier to handle, chill it for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until it is no longer sticky.
  • To make the cookies more uniform in size, use a cookie cutter to cut out the dough.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just golden brown around the edges. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
  • Russian Rocks are best enjoyed fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

Russian Rocks are a delicious and easy-to-make cookie that is perfect for any occasion. They are made with simple ingredients and can be customized to your liking. Whether you enjoy them plain or with your favorite toppings, these cookies are sure to be a hit.
